In the spring of 1979, Gary Adams, a golf equipment salesman, secured a $24,000 loan against his home to establish the TaylorMade Golf Company. He leased a 6,000 square-foot building that had previously served as a television assembly plant. At that time, the company had just three employees, including Adams himself, and offered a single groundbreaking product: a 12-degree driver made from stainless steel. This new metalwood not only looked and sounded distinct from traditional wooden woods but, most importantly, delivered superior performance. Its perimeter-weighted clubhead provided more forgiveness on off-center hits, while the lower center of gravity made it easier to launch the ball into the air. Adams, who had golf professional lineage, was unwavering in his commitment to ensuring that TaylorMade clubs maintained a connection to what genuine golfers perceived as an authentic golf club in terms of appearance and feel. Their dedication lay in merging innovation with authenticity, maintaining a profound passion for the game, and pledging to be competitive in their efforts to establish and grow the company. These four principles would prove instrumental in their journey.
The same values identified by Gary Adams three decades ago continue to be held in high regard and put into practice at TaylorMade Golf today. As TaylorMade persist in delivering products that assist golfers of all skill levels in realising their potential, their mission, which has remained constant since 1979, remains unchanged: To Create the Best Performing Golf Products in the World.
